The roles of vibration amplitude and static force

چکیده
Previous work (Verrillo, 1963, 1968) has shown that when measured as a change in absolute threshold, spatial summation occurs only at vibration frequencies above 40 Hz. The present study measured vibrotactile spatial summation at suprathreshold amplitudes. A matchingtask was used to investig-ate the effect of varying contactor size on sensory magnitude at three different vibration frequencies. Unlike the threshold data, increasing contactor size resulted in increases in sensory magnitude at 25 and 40 Hz as well as at 160 Hz. The amount of summation varied directly with amplitude for the two lower frequencies. In a second experiment, the effect of increasing static force, independent of contactor size, was investigated. The results indicated that the spatial summation effects noted in the first experiment may be due to increases in static force and not contactor area. The implications of these results for the concept of spatial summation and for the duplex mechanoreceptor hypothesis are discussed.

Nonlinear Vibration and Stability Analysis of Beam on the Variable Viscoelastic Foundation
The aim of this study is the investigation of the large amplitude deflection of an Euler-Bernoulli beam subjected to an axial load on a viscoelastic foundation with the strong damping. In order to achieve this purpose, the beam nonlinear frequency has been calculated by homotopy perturbation method (HPM) and Hamilton Approach (HA) and it was compared by the exact solutions for the different bou...
متن کاملStatic and Free Vibration Analyses of Orthotropic FGM Plates Resting on Two-Parameter Elastic Foundation by a Mesh-Free Method
In this paper, static and free vibrations behaviors of the orthotropic functionally graded material (FGM) plates resting on the two-parameter elastic foundation are analyzed by the a mesh-free method based on the first order shear deformation plate theory (FSDT). The mesh-free method is based on moving least squares (MLS) shape functions and essential boundary conditions are imposed by transfer...
متن کاملApplication of the method of multiple scales for nonlinear vibration analysis of mechanical systems with dry and lubricated clearance joints
In this study, the method of multiple scales is used to perform a nonlinear vibration analysis of a mechanical system in two cases; with dry and lubricated clearance joints. In the dry contact case, the Lankarani-Nikravesh model is used to represent the contact force between the joined bodies. The surface elasticity is modeled as a nonlinear spring-damper element. Primary resonance is discussed...

Nowadays, atomic-force microscopy plays a significant role in nanoscience and nanotechnology, and is widely used for direct measurement at atomic scale and scanning the sample surfaces. In tapping mode, the microcantilever of atomic-force microscope is excited at resonance frequency. Therefore, it is important to study its resonance. Moreover, atomic-force microscopes can be operated in fluid e...
